Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Stacks, operated by Jose Araneta, collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information when you use the Stacks service. Stacks is a media-sharing and collaboration app, so the information we process includes account information, user-uploaded content, purchase-related records, collaboration and sharing data, operational records, permissions-based data, and support or legal communications.
- Stacks processes account information, user-created media, purchase-related records, support communications, and operational data to run the service.
- The service includes optional features involving notifications, location-related access checks, GIF/media integrations, storage subscriptions, and AI-assisted tools.
- When users buy storage or AI credits through Apple, Stacks may receive transaction identifiers, product identifiers, subscription status, and billing-related status signals, but not full payment-card numbers.
1. What This Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through the Stacks mobile app, Stacks-hosted websites and support pages, communications with support, privacy, or legal channels, and related services and features that reference this Privacy Policy.
2. The Information We Collect
Information You Provide
We may collect information you provide directly, including registration and account information such as your email address, username, display name, and profile photo; profile information you choose to add; content you create, upload, record, store, send, or share through the service, such as photos, videos, GIF-based content, text, captions, narration notes, audio, prompts, generated outputs you choose to retain, and related metadata; sharing and collaboration information; purchase-related information such as selected plan, selected product, transaction identifiers, and support history related to billing issues; and communications you send to support, privacy, legal, or other service channels.
Information We Collect Automatically
We may automatically collect information needed to operate, secure, and improve the service, including device and application information, diagnostic and crash data, service logs, security-related events, push notification tokens, operational metadata associated with account, media, AI, billing, and backend workflows, and records used to reconcile storage usage, quota status, and feature-access eligibility.
Information We Collect Based On Permissions Or Feature Use
Depending on the permissions you grant and the features you use, we may collect or access photo-library content you choose to import, microphone input for audio and narration features, location information used for geo-lock or geo-unlock access checks, and notification permissions and device tokens to send alerts and service messages.
Information From Third Parties
We may receive information from authentication and infrastructure providers, content or media providers such as GIF search services, platform providers, app-store and payment ecosystem providers, and third-party AI-processing providers used when you choose optional narration-improvement or similar features.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to provide, maintain, secure, and improve the service. This includes using information to create, authenticate, and manage accounts; host, organize, store, display, transmit, and share user-created content; enable collaboration, sharing, and viewing experiences; support audio, narration, and media-related features; verify and administer purchases, credits, and subscriptions; evaluate or enforce access rules such as sharing permissions, storage quotas, paid-feature eligibility, or location-related access flows; send notifications and service-related communications; detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, scraping, security incidents, payment abuse, and policy violations; respond to support, privacy, legal, and deletion requests; comply with law; and improve product reliability.
6. Location Information
Stacks includes geo-related functionality in the codebase, including features tied to geo-locked or geo-unlocked access. Location access is optional and permission-based. Based on the current product design, Stacks uses location information for geo access checks and does not log users' location history as part of normal app operation.
7. Audio, Voice, And AI-Assisted Features
Stacks includes audio and narration-related features. If you use them, audio or related inputs may be uploaded, stored, and processed to provide service functionality. Stacks may also offer optional in-app AI-assisted features. If you use AI-assisted functionality, prompts, source media, generation requests, billing events, and generated outputs you choose to keep may be processed and logged to operate the feature, prevent abuse, investigate disputes, and enforce product limits. Any AI-generated or AI-improved output may be inaccurate or unsuitable, and users remain responsible for reviewing it before use or sharing.
8. Legal Bases For Processing
Where required by applicable law, Stacks may process information under one or more legal bases, including performance of a contract with you, legitimate interests such as service security, abuse prevention, and billing integrity, consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.
9. Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide and maintain the service, preserve account, sharing, content, credit-balance, and subscription functionality, investigate and prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce agreements, process deletion requests, and maintain backup or disaster-recovery integrity.
When a valid deletion request is submitted, Stacks begins processing it through an asynchronous deletion workflow. Some data may be removed from active systems promptly, while full removal from backups, recovery systems, and related cleanup workflows may take longer.
10. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission, storage, or security control is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed without authorization.
11. Your Rights And Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access personal information, correct or update certain information, request deletion, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and appeal a denied request where required by law. You may also control certain device permissions through your operating system settings, including access to photos, microphone, location, and notifications. Subscription cancellation and many purchase controls are managed through Apple rather than directly through Stacks.
12. Children
Stacks is not intended for children under 13, or under any higher minimum age required by applicable law. This section should be read together with the separate Children and Age Policy and any app-store age disclosures.
13. International Transfers
Because digital services may rely on distributed infrastructure and service providers, information may be stored or processed in countries other than your own, including where Stacks or its service providers operate systems needed to deliver the service.
14. Changes To This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the service, law, or our practices. This website displays an effective date and last updated date and may preserve prior versions or a changelog where feasible. Material changes may be communicated where required by law.
